How to Stay Safe Whilst Out and About

Nobody wants to walk around in a cloud of stress always worrying about the worst happening. It would be exhausting and depressing, and as much as anything it would make it very difficult to operate on a day-to-day level with the freedom to do what we want. However, that doesn’t mean it’s not a good idea to take certain straightforward precautions that can reduce the likelihood of getting into unpleasant situations. These methods can be affordable and non-intrusive while significantly lowering the potential for sticky situations.

Personal alarm

Avoid Bad Parts of Town

This is pretty straightforward. Most towns and cities will have areas, large or small, they seem to be populated with a higher amount of menacing individuals. It’s easy to discern these areas by paying attention to local news and hearing where the most crime takes place. Avoiding these places is a good way to reduce the risk of falling a victim to crime. Although it should be noted that certain areas also pick up an undeserved bad reputation, it’s still a good idea to keep your eyes open and your ears to the ground. Stay away from these places at night, and try to keep to main roads and the more crowded thoroughfares if you are required to go there.

Keep Safe at All Times

There are ways you can make yourself less of a target, wherever you are, by employing a little caution and common sense. Don’t wear a lot of visible jewellery whenever possible. Keep your mobile phone in your pocket as much as you can, and be mindful of your surroundings when using it in public. Keep a personal alarm on you when you go out so you can better deter anyone who tries to victimise you. These are small and affordable devices that you can trigger in an emergency that emit high volume alarm noises to draw attention and make scumbags think twice before they try to go for you.
